The End of a Historic Rivalry

When Nebraska left the Big 12 for the Big 10, it effectively ended one of the greatest rivalries in the history of college football.

I must respectfully disagree. The expansion of the Big 8 to the Big 12 effectively ended one of the greatest rivalries in the history of college football. Great rivalry games don't occur two times every four years.

If the rivalry wasn't worth saving then, perhaps it isn't worth saving now.

Still, it is sad to know that we won't be seeing the Sooners in Lincoln any time soon.

Tim Challies on Principles for Conduct in Communication

At the Ligonier Ministries 2010 National Conference (being streamed live here), Tim Challies spoke about Principles for Conduct in Communication.  He offered these tips to Christians who chose to use new and social media and other forms of online communication:

  1. Be Visible - Don't seek anononimity online. Rather, allow others to see you and your activities.
  2. Be Accountable - Invite a friend or your spouse to read your Facebook posts, blog posts, or even to search through your email account.
  3. Be Real - Don't pretend to be something or someone that you are not online.
  4. Distrust Yourself

Solid words of advice to consider as I engage with others via email, Facebook, Twitter, and other means.

Words of Wisdom for Young Preachers

Jonathan Dodson, Lead Pastor at Austin City Life, offers seven pieces of advice for young preachers.

1. The theologically educated should spend less time in books and more time in culture.

2. If not theologically trained, get some on the fly and use it directly in the pulpit.

3. Consider your context and preach to your people.

4. Spend a lot of time in prayer for your people.

5. Don’t try to “arrive” with each message.

6. Be less hours driven and more Spirit led.

7. Give equal attention the ministry of the Word throughout the week.
